The Curve- Slough

About project:    The Curve will be Slough’s new learning and cultural centre, will bring the Heart of Slough scheme together by housing a new library, education facilities, a café and a cultural centre for the town. It will create an internal pedestrian link between the bus station and Mackenzie Square making it far easier and safer for pedestrians to access the town centre. The building is environmentally friendly as it incorporates solar panels in the roof and very high efficiency gas boilers. There will also be a number of new trees around the entrances making a pleasant environment to pass through. The Curve is expected to be opened to visitors in early 2016.

Scope of works: Working for Vision Survey as a site engineer and then as Project Engineer for Morgan Sindall I have been responsible for all surveying aspects of work from the very start.

Establishing primary and secondary control, setting out of groundworks (pile matt, storm and foul drainage),RC slab, steel structure, curtain walling, partitions, drylining, internal and external services, soft and hard landscaping. Carrying topographical surveys, volume calculations and  producing drawings. I was also responsible for a quality assurance. I analysed data drawings, prepared setting out coordinates for subcontractors, did as-built surveys.

Separate task was monitoring of adjacent existing wall and reporting any readings out of tolerance to Site Manager.

As a  member of management team I was implementing good practices, safe systems of work and company procedures, overlooking health and safety standards.
